Outdoor Gym (project)

13/11/2024

You may recall that around this time last year I wrote to the Friends Group asking if they would support equipment for the play area for older children.  Unfortunately, only a handful of people responded to this email which meant we were unable to obtain the funding, as we could not prove the need for this.

As you will have seen from the minutes of our last meeting the lack of exercise equipment for older people was discussed once again.  It was agreed that we would look into the provision of some outdoor gym equipment for which funding will need to be secured.  See below examples of the gym equipment.

It would be greatly appreciated therefore, if you wish to support our endeavour to provide evidence for our funding request, you could let me have your emails as soon as possible.

Half-term Event 28 Oct

5/10/2022

As outlined in the minutes we are looking to organise, alongside the borough Council Parks Development Officer, an event in Whitecotes Playing Field during the half term break.

When: Friday 28 October 10-12

There will be an opportunity to make bird boxes for the field, along with wild flower seed bombs, to be dispersed around the field.  There will also be an explorer activity for the children. All the materials will be provided, along with clipboards and maps of the park for the explorer activity.

Click on the poster (PDF) for full details.

If there is anyone with a couple of hours to spare to help on the day, or who has a large water container with a tap that we could borrow (seed bomb making is particularly messy), please contact us.

Hope to see you there. We would appreciate it if you could spread the word via friends and family.

Chesterfield Borough Council with the assistance of Wildlife Trust are currently undertaking the planting of the Jubilee Trees at the bottom end of the field. Next week they will fence the areas off to ensure the trees are protected in the longer term and to provide some protection for ground nesting birds etc..
